85.52 %. The district was formed in the year 1980.
Vythiri Taluk is the Taluk Headquarter of Vythiri taluk, it includes places Achuranam, Vengappally, Choondayil, Vadekkemuttil, Kalpetta, Thekkemuttil, Kaniyampatta, Pozhuthana, Kavumannam, Kuppadithara, Kottapady, Thrikaipatta, Kottathara, Mupainadu, Kunnathidavaka, Thariyodu and Vellarimala.
Sultan Batheri is the Taluk Headquarter of Sultan Batheri taluk and it includes places like Ambalavayal, Thomattuchal, Cheeral, Purakkadi, Eralam, Poothady, Noolpuzha, Kidangenadu, Nadavayal, Pulpally, Kooppady, Padichira, Krishnagiri, Nenmeni and Sultan Batheri.
Manathavadi is the Taluk Headquarter of Manathavadi taluk, it includes places like Anchukunnu, Vellamunda, Cherukattur, Thrissleri, Edavaka, Thirunelli, Kanjirangadu, Payyambally, Manathavady, Valadu, Thondernadu, Nallurnadu, Porunnannur, Panamaram, Perya and Thavinjal.

Edakkal Cave
At the top of Ambukuthi hills stands 2 historic caves that stand on the middle of Batheri and Ambalavayal. The Cave located at western corner of Edakkal hill is attractive and glamorous. There are varied unique sculptors of men and animal you get to see, there are also some olden days agricultural utensils for you to see and gain knowledge about the types of objects used in ancient days. The cave is a good memorable spot for it’s contains lots of historic items and dwelling of cave men. If you are lucky enough you would also get to see some old alphabets being displayed which is an added attraction for tourists and locales. The corporeal remains of the the tribal chief named Pazhassi is kept and preserved by Archaological department.
Muhtanga
Muhtanga contains an awesome scenic Wildlife Sanctuary. The place is visited by tourist from all around the country and abroad. It has got some amazing species and unique creatures here.
Pakshi Pathalam
Pakshi Pathalam is located at valley of Bhragiri hills. The place has it in its possession rare specimens of birds, some of them are the migrated species also.
Pukoot Lake
Pukoot Lake is one of the important destinations of the district Wynady. The lake is one of the best natural scenic lake around the area of Thalipuzha river located near Vaithiri Panchayat, the best part of this wonderful scenery is that it is surrounded by hill giving it a more natural and tantalizing look. The people who are visiting this place can take self driving boats available on rent.
River Kabini
River Kabini is located on Thamarassery Pass which is situated on the Kozhikode-Manathavady route. The river is located in the heart of Wyanad. The wonderful and magic saga about this river is that it is invisible at times due to the dense greenery around the place, it is surrounded by coffee and tea estates across the ascending road giving it a more hidden look. The place is known as Pazhassi country where the tribal chief fought in the wildest areas of Wyanadu. The river kabini takes its birth from 6 km north of Panamaram, it is basically the confluence of Panamaram river. The river makes it origin from western ghats which is at 4,500 ft above the sea level and you can also see Manathavadi springing from around 5,000 ft of Todarmudi. The people of the areas

Thirunelly Temple
Thirunelly Temple is one of the oldest of temples in Kerala it is situated 27 km from Manathavadi which is at the valley of Bhramagiri hills. You can visit the place by taking a forest road, its fun filled as well nature inclining, you would just love the natural beauty here. The temple is also known by the name 'Dakshina Kasi' and also by the name 'Papanashini'. The famous Bhramagiri hills are located at the height of 5272 ft above the sea level, as soon you move onto other side of the hill you will get into Kudagu district of Karnataka.
